The United Colours of Benetton advertising has always courted controversy. Remember this one from 1991?

Well they have done it again, with images probably inspired by this iconic 1979 image of Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honeker then the leader of the German Democratic Republik.

Now, Benetton have mimicked this iconic image with their new advertising campaign showing leaders of today locked in a deep, loving embrace. Of course in the 1970’s soviet bloc, this kind of thing was what you did.

Its surprisingly disturbing seeing today’s leaders doing the same.

… and perhaps most controversially:
