I have written here before about the evolution of the London Routemaster Bus. That post made me think of the evolution of other iconic designs, especially those that define a city.
The London Black Cab and New York Taxi are without a doubt two of these.
Turning first to the New York cab. If you have been to New York, you probably remember these (maybe some of them only from old movies)
and the current hybrid taxis that you seem to see more and more of. I think these are a little sad. Not really anything special, just a yellow paint job.
But I do quite like the new New York City Cab, designed by a Turkish (!) company Karsan.
These are just concept right now, with Karsan being one of three companies that are finalists for the New York Taxi of the Future competition. But they look great, and have something iconic about them. I’d like to see these on the streets of NYC.
why surprised that karsan is turkish!? 🙂
it’s the same company that designed the first turkish mas produced car back in the day. go karsan!! happy hols.
Nice post. appreciable. thanks for sharing.
