So recently most people heard about the traffic jam into Bejing that lasted not 1 hour, or 4 hours or even a day but a whopping 9 days, nearly causing a humanitarian disaster (!) as drivers were left without food, water and fuel (to warm themselves, its not like they were going anywhere).
How do you create a new bus system which does not require any additional space, but can still overtake the cars stuck in traffic jams like these?
Bejing is planning to help get around these types of issues by building a straddling bus system that travels above the (unchanged) lanes of traffic on the road.
I really hope this gets built, even if its just for the sake of the people in the 9 day traffic jam.
but my favourite is this mock up of what it will look like from the point of view of a driver on the road. Can’t say that “being overtaken by a bus” would not be slightly freaky…
