Tragedy struck at the 2010 World Sauna Championships, when the two finalists were taken to hospital with burns after the sauna reached temperatures of more than 110 degrees. Full CNN article here.
One of the competitors Vladimir Ladyzhenskiy (presumably the chap on the left in the photo) very sadly died in hospital. Wikipedia has a summary of the brilliant rules of the event, which include not being allowed to lean forward too much…
So who the heck even knew this thing existed until last week? No one. It happened and minded its own business and the world was none the wiser.
