Beheading people in Benin

I have already written here before about one of my favourite flags in the world.

Then recently I was surfing around, looking at some sites about other flags, and found what has to be one of the most astonishing flags I have ever seen.

I mean what does this flag say about your empire?! A few facts:

The empire basically ran from 1440 to 1897, a period during which I can only assume that beheading people was a fun thing to do. If you want to avoid going there, you need to know that it is now part of Nigeria. Wikipedia has much more, including the fascinating tale of the Oba of Benin…
